How the "winter of ice" and a beautiful spring "made" "Samos 1963"«
The winter of 1962-1963 went down in history as the "winter of ice" since throughout Europe the weather conditions were reminiscent of... the North Pole.
Since mid-January, it has been snowing non-stop all over Greece and supplies were being dropped in areas blocked by frost. The temperature was many degrees below zero, something our country had never experienced before! Then, an unprecedented downpour hit our country, resulting in hundreds of homes and crops being destroyed.
A mild spring followed the bad weather, which allowed the Muscat grape to bloom. The cool summer that followed created the ideal climatic conditions for an excellent wine-growing year on the island of Samos. The Samoan winegrowers had taken care of their vines with effort and love. The 1963 vintage was characterized as "fine", giving a fine 1963 vintage wine that aged for years in small oak barrels, until it reached the collector's bottle in which it is sold today.
